Admission by affiliation

For professionals who are members of a CPA organization in another Canadian province or territory or Bermuda.

Mandatory documents that must be submitted

  • Please note that the Order reserves the right to require any additional documents required to review your application, as well as the original production of any required document.
  • A delay of 30 to 60 days may be required to process your application. Please note that processing of applications is interrupted from March to mid-April.
Pieces of identification

You must submit one or two pieces of identification issued by a competent authority, based on your place of birth:

  • In Canada: One piece of identification
  • Outside of Canada: Two pieces of identification

Documents in a language other than French or English must be translated by a certified translator.

You must complete and sign Part 1 of the form and ask your professional CPA organization to complete and sign Part 2 and return it to the Order. 

Note that you must remain a member in good standing of the CPA organization until your admission to the Order has been confirmed.

Professional liability insurance declaration

Members must subscribe to the Fonds d’assurance de la responsabilité professionnelle des CPA du Québec and carry coverage for liability they may incur owing to errors or negligence committed in the practice of the profession under the Règlement sur l’assurance de la responsabilité professionnelle des comptables professionnels agréés.

You are required to complete the professional liability insurance declaration, attach it to your application for admission and, in due course, pay the insurance premium in full. The Order will inform you of the fees payable.

Note that although you must pay the insurance premium before the admission date, your professional liability insurance contract will only take effect on the date of your reinstatement on the roll of the Order.

Proof of French language proficiency

You must attach one of the following documents to your application for admission as proof of your French language proficiency:

  • Official transcript indicating that you received no less than three years of full-time instruction delivered in French, regardless of the country
  • Secondary school transcript issued by Quebec’s Ministère de l’Éducation, indicating that you passed the fourth or fifth year secondary level examination for French as a first language
  • Secondary school diploma issued by Quebec’s Ministère de l’Éducation as of and after the 1985-1986 school year
  • Certificate attesting that you passed the exam of the Office québécois de la langue française

If you cannot provide any of these documents, you must attach a copy of your undergraduate degree as proof of your eligibility for a temporary permit.

Fees charged

A $505.89 fee will be charged to file your application. You must also pay the full amount of the professional liability insurance premium and any other amounts owing to the Order, if applicable. 

The Order will send you an invoice. In order for your application to be processed, the invoice must be paid in full by credit card.

Within a few days of your admission to the Order, you will also receive your first dues notice, which must be paid within 45 days following the date on which you are admitted to the Order.

The Order will provide you with a permit that allows you to use the CPA designation in Quebec. You will not be allowed to use any other designation issued to you by the CPA organization in your Canadian province or territory or Bermuda.

All members of the Order must have a knowledge of French appropriate to the practice of the profession.
